Local, Near and Far: Our journey of exploring the world.

Avoca Coffee

Nestled in the “Near Southside” district, off of Magnolia Avenue, Avoca Coffee is by far my favorite coffee house in Fort Worth. There are so many things to think about and look for when you go to a coffee house. What is the ambiance? Clientele? Can you study there or is it more of a place to meet up with friends? Do they have good coffee? A menu with variety?

Local Art

The atmosphere when you walk into Avoca is casual, relaxed, filled with locals, and fun. People always seem to be engaged in conversation and having a good time and it is always easy to strike up conversation with the baristas or other customers. One of my favorite things at Avoca is that  local art is featured on the walls. And it rotates! My favorite coffee shop during college did that and it was always so fun to take a study break and check out the art. Seating in Avoca is abundant with comfy chairs and couches, or tables and chairs. Avoca also has the equipment to host live music, although I’ve never been there when it has been available. The baristas are SO friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful–you can tell they take pride in where they work and enjoy themselves while on the job.

Cappuccino and Cold Brew Pour-Over

While I’m not an aficionado at all when it comes to coffee knowledge, I like to think I just trust my palate and go with what I enjoy. So, I love cappuccino. The espresso and just a bit of milk is so fantastic. We’ve enjoyed hot and cold pour-overs, cappuccino and macchiato at Avoca and can say that they are all wonderful. Taken directly from their website, “Our coffee is an artisan micro roast perfected through detailed work, method and obsession. All of our products are judged by how it is grown, gathered and treated. We use organics when possible and direct trade is a priority. AVOCA is about a seed to cup philosophy.” How great is this? When you enjoy coffee at Avoca, you know they are roasting and brewing with integrity. One other note, the menu isn’t huge and there aren’t many other goodies there-just a few pastries-but, I think this aspect subtly communicates just how intentional they are in serving quality products with excellence.

Avoca at night.

As I walk in the door, every time my eye is caught by the community board. I’ve seen everything posted on this board from a CSA, to a music concert, to a garage sale, to tutoring. Avoca engages with the community by sharing (and sometimes being a part of) local events. One other great thing about Avoca is that they are seriously passionate about what they do and they want to educate their customers. Check their website for classes–they have a couple different options whether you want to learn about their roasting process, brewing, or cupping.

Ok, there you have it. I suppose I’m finished gushing about Avoca. But seriously, it is a quality coffee house with wonderful coffee choices, a casual atmosphere and you can be confident that you are supporting a local business that is passionate about providing customers with a quality coffee experience.

I love Avoca. My favorite is the vanilla latte. It is not too sweet at all and they make their own simple syrup. So good!!! And I always look forward to seeing the great design on top 🙂
