Rebekah and I absolutely loved our stay at Pension U Zámku! Our amazing experience started immediately upon arrival at the Český Krumlov train station.
When finalizing our reservation over email, the pension owner Petr offered to pick us up at the train station. We gladly accepted! Rebekah and I were greeted with big smiles by Petr and his little daughter. This warm welcome made us immediately feel at home in the small Czech town, like extended family returning from a long absence. This kindness saved us a 20 minute walk or the cost of a taxi.
Location: Pension U Zámku is situated DIRECTLY under the Round Tower. With only one day in this quaint location, we paid only slightly more to stay in the heart of the town. This prime location provides quick access to all of Český Krumlov, both the Old Town and Castle Town. The entrance to Český Krumlov Castle is only one minute away.
The Room: The Pension is a quiet and cozy bed and breakfast with 5 rooms. We climbed two flights of steep, winding stairs to our superior double room on the top floor. The spacious, smartly-decorated room featured exposed wood beams. From the bedroom, windows overlooked the Old Town on the other side of the Vltava River. Opening the bathroom window, the Round Tower loomed high above us. The room included a double and single bed, small TV, closet and a safe. The bathroom and shower did not feel cramped. Free Wi-Fi is available.
The Breakfast: In the morning, we were greeted with a delicious breakfast spread before us in the small dining area: fresh bread, meats, cheeses, yogurt and pastries. Just in case that wasn’t enough, Petr’s wife cooked farm fresh eggs to order, topped with cheese. Orange juice, coffee and tea complemented the food. The breakfast presentation at Pension U Zámku was amazing; the best of our trip!
The Cost: Since we stayed only one night, we opted to pay the small fee and upgraded to the superior double room, complete with castle view. We tried to book directly with the Pension, but found it easier to book the room on-line through Booking.com for 75 Euro a night, about $100 at the time. A credit card number was required to hold the room, but only cash (Crowns or Euros) was accepted at checkout. Overall, a great value!
Other Noteworthy Items: Pension U Zámku’s customer service is outstanding! Petr and his wife accommodated a special laundry request due to a skin allergy on short notice, adding to our overall enjoyment of our visit.
The worst part of our stay was leaving, as Rebekah and I wished to stay a few more days. Petr arranged a taxi to meet us upon departure, conveniently dropping us at the train station (saving us an uphill walk).
I loved our pension in Berlin. I think the Europeans really have this BnB idea down. Having a castle view is totally worth the extra expense too!
Jocelyn,
The castle view was amazing, and definitely worth it! You are right, pensions and BnBs offer a totally different experience.
The Penison U Zamku sounds charming and the hosts certainly seemed to go above and beyond in the customer service department. I loved that it’s in the heart of the city with great views. Thanks for the recommendation. We’ll definitely try them out if we’re ever in the vicinity.
Sue,
The hosts and the town views were wonderful, and really made the experience memorable!
Wow really nice! They seemed so sweet to pick you up. A nice added touch with the breakfast!
Thanks Holly,
If only breakfast was always that delicious!
Wow this place looks beautiful. It definitely looks like the upgrade was worth it! It’s so nice that the service was excellent too. 🙂
Amber,
The entire town is absolutely beautiful, and the views from our room were definitely worth the extra cost!
Wow, very hospitable owners of the Pension. Great location, too. Both good things to have in a traveler’s lodging!
Carol,
We love staying right in the heart of the places we visit! As you pointed out: Location, location, location. Thank you for the comment!
